Frost Echols, LLC is a national law firm focused on regulatory compliance, licensing, and defense litigation within the credit and collection industry. Our Compliance Department provides legal advice to debt collection agencies, creditors, debt buyers, collection law firms, and technology vendors on federal and state regulatory requirements.

This role centers on helping clients proactively build and maintain compliance management programs, revise and advise on contracts, navigate evolving regulatory requirements, respond to state and federal examinations and investigations, and solve operational compliance challenges.

Position Overview

The attorney will independently research, analyze, and advise clients on a range of federal and state regulatory issues affecting consumer financial services and debt collection. The position requires sound legal judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to translate legal requirements into clear, practical, and business-oriented advice.

The work is challenging, technical, and constantly evolving. The ideal candidate enjoys solving complex regulatory issues, producing exceptional written work product, and partnering with clients to develop practical compliance solutions.

Successful candidates are organized, capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously, and comfortable working both independently and collaboratively with attorneys and clients across the country.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research and analyze federal and state statutes, regulations, agency guidance, licensing requirements, and case law affecting consumer financial services and debt collection.
  • Prepare client-facing legal memoranda, compliance guidance, legal opinions, newsletters, regulatory alerts, and practical summaries of emerging legal developments.
  • Advise clients regarding compliance with federal and state consumer protection laws and assist in developing practical operational solutions.
  • Conduct complex multi-state legal analyses involving licensing, debt collection, privacy, communications, consumer financial services, and related regulatory frameworks.
  • Draft and review policies, procedures, compliance manuals, contracts, consumer disclosures, and operational documentation.
  • Review, draft, and negotiate commercial agreements, including MSAs, vendor agreements, DPAs, HIPAA BAAs, software and technology agreements, and related contractual provisions involving indemnification, confidentiality, information security, and risk allocation.
  • Assist clients with regulatory examinations, audits, Civil Investigative Demands (CIDs), attorney general inquiries, licensing matters, and consumer complaints.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and communicate their operational impact to clients.
  • Identify regulatory risks and recommend practical compliance strategies that balance legal requirements with business operations.
  • Communicate directly with clients regarding legal advice, project status, and compliance recommendations.
  • Collaborate with attorneys across the firm’s compliance and litigation practices on complex legal matters.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Active bar license in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • Approximately 1–5 years of legal experience (regulatory, compliance, administrative, or litigation experience preferred).
  • Outstanding legal research, analytical, and writing skills.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, polished work product.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously.
  • Sound legal judgment and the ability to work independently.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Professionalism, initiative, and a collaborative mindset.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in one or more of the following areas is helpful but not required:

  • Consumer financial services law
  • Regulatory compliance or administrative law
  • Commercial litigation
  • State licensing and regulatory matters
  • Debt collection laws
  • Privacy and data security
  • Consumer protection statutes, including the FDCPA, FCRA, TCPA, GLBA, and HIPAA.
